>>672 bamboo is fucking awesome. It's lifespan is only about 20 years, but it flowers once every 7 to 120 years, depending on the species. Interestingly, all the bamboo of a particular species will flower at exactly the same time, regardless of their geographical location.

Anyone know what kind of tree this is? Are those poles someone put there, or are they just really long roots?

I really love the way ants execute. About a week ago I was doing some gardening and transplanted some plants into a big bin so I could grow them inside. In the process I, apparently, dug up some ants. At first they all ran around on the surface, but now they have their own ant hill and everything. I can't imagine I dug up the queen, so I guess they're just doing their own thing. Which, of course, makes sense when you look at things like ant farms. Still, it's interesting how a rogue band of ants with no queen will still do the same thing any other ant does, rather than just die.
